The Edison Symphony Orchestra

The Edison Symphony Orchestra is a 70 piece professional symphony. Concerts are held at Middlesex County College Theatre (Exit 10 off of the NJ Turnpike) or at the State Theatre New Brunswick, NJ (Exit 9 off of the NJ Turnpike) World Class artists are regular features on the program. The orchestra was founded in 2000, by President Angelo A. Orlando, Jr.

Judith Morse, Conductor, will be starting her eighth season with the symphony, now the "Official Orchestra of Middlesex County."

Betty ZhouBetty Zhou, 18, began her violin studies at the age of four at the Woodbridge Academy of Music. At eight, she gave her first public reictal at the Marryott Music Hall at Rutgers University, and in 1999 entered the Pre-College Division of the Juilliard School as a student of Dorothy Delay and Naoko Tanaka.

Betty was the first place winner of the NJMTA Young Violinist Competition for three consecutive years at ages six, seven, and eight and has been awarded Artist of the Season by the Edison Art Association. She is the winner of the 2002 Philadelphia Orchestra's Strings International Music Festival Concerto Competition; the 2003 Pre-Teen America National Talent Competition in Little Rock; the 2003 Pre-College Chamber Orchestra Violin Concerto Competition; the 2006 Battleground Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Concerto Competition, and the 2006 New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's Young Artists Auditions. She has also achieved honors in the Piano Teachers Society of America auditions in multiple years. She has soloed with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, the Edison Symphony Orchestra, the Juilliard Pre-College Chamber Orchestra, the Bravura Philharmonic, the Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and has given annual recitals in Juilliard's Paul and Morse Halls. In 2007, she played a four-concert series with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra as the winner of the Young Artists Auditions, and held her Avery Fisher Hall debut in the same year as soloist with the Chinese Christian Herald Crusades Chamber Orchestra in their 5th Chinese Community Benefit Concert. Her performances with the NJSO have been broadcast on WQXR and her piano quintet was featured on From The Top's radio program in 2007.

Summer festivals she has attended include FAME international Music Festival, Philadelphia Orchestra International Strings Festival, the Aspen Music Festival as a recipient of the New Horizons Fellowship, and Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea.

Betty graduated with honors from the Juilliard Pre-College in June, and is currently a freshman at The Juilliard School studying with Naoko Tanaka and Hyo Kang.


Kevin Jang

Kevin Jang, a 14-year-old pianist from Edison, New Jersey, is widely praised for his technical mastery and musical sensitivity. He has won numerous top awards at competitions, including the Juilliard Pre-College Concerto Competition, Alberti International Piano Competition, Connecticut International Young Artist Piano Competition, International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington D.C., and the Rovere d'Oro International Young Talents Piano Competition in Italy.

Born in 1994, Kevin began piano lessons at the age of four. Since age five, he has been performing publicly in concerts and televised broadcasts. He made his orchestral debut in 2003 at age nine. Since then he has appeared as piano soloist with various orchestras such as the Edison Symphony, Giavane Sinfonietta Clodiense, Orchestra Sinfonica di Chioggia, Plainfield Symphony, Warminster Symphony, and Juilliard Pre-College Chamber Orchestra.

Kevin was awarded "Artist of the Season" by the Edison Arts Society in 2005 and featured in "The Arts in Edison" Cable TV program. He has performed at such prestigious concert venues as Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Lied Center of Kansas, New Jersey State Theatre, and Steinway Hall in New York City. He has also performed in master class with Lang Lang and André-Michel Schub.

Kevin currently attends J.P. Stevens High School as a 9th grader. He studies piano with Victoria Mushkatkol at The Juilliard School Pre-College Division with scholarships from the Hecksher Foundation and Gordon Roberts. Previously, Kevin has studied under the direction of Chiu-Tze Lin, Yelena Ivanov, and Elena Lisitsian. He is also the grant recipient from Children's Foundation for the Arts.
